This current role includes research, development, merchandising and design for a number of motor-sports based clients and their various apparel, promotional and marketing design needs. Applying personal, professional, cultural and practical experiences in the motor sports and action sports industry sectors to enhance and amplify client identities and create genuine connections between products and the end user. Functions include design and development of graphics for t-shirts, hats, trims, embellishments, apparel, soft-goods, hard-goods, accessories and assorted promotional merchandise. Additional duties include the planning and creation of marketing collateral for advertisements in both print and digital marketing campaigns.

Used knowledge of skate, streetwear and motorsports culture to ensure the infusion of genuine Ken Block driven attitude and essence in every design. Tasks supported cross-collaborative collection projects with various high-end technical partners, including Subaru, Team Associated Electronics, Wheel World and Travis Pastrana. Stewarded Hoonigan’s design aesthetic in the collaborative process, driving Block influenced direction while honoring the spirit of these established technical partners and their own corresponding style guides and design goals. Also, supported various other in-line seasonal T-shirt graphics, stickers, trims, patterns and various accessory design and special make up units including hard goods and remote control toys.

Scope of services encompassed all creative roles typically needed for establishing a multi-tier, ground-up, visual identity, including conceiving and designing multiple brand logos, icons, business tangibles, packaging assets, individual product and product line identities for a start-up company in Washington’s emerging legal cannabis CO2 extraction market. Objectives also included using creative packaging design, sourcing and production knowledge to manage vast amounts of mandatory, federally regulated, compliance information that was housed on every package design for the majority of the Optimum product line. Additional responsibilities included the design of promotional materials, including event and print assets and digital marketing collateral.

Exercised the full scope of all professional, artistic and design knowledge to create groundbreaking designs for multiple Nike t-shirt and sportswear divisions. Maintained and implemented a high level of brand awareness during all phases of each project in order to render solutions that amplified Nike’s philosophies while enhancing their cultural connection to all sports. Duties included elaborating on design briefs with a mentor to research, explore, execute, review, revise and enhance t-shirt and sportswear design concepts. This included mocking up designs, calling out printing methods, materials, colors, blank choices, sizing and placement of all designs, while simultaneously managing time for other Nike projects tasks and deadlines.

Responsibilities included utilizing strong formal education and experience to effectively plan and teach Intro to Graphic Design 1 and Intro to Digital Illustration 1. Provided Graphic students with a historical, practical, and technical understanding of visual problem solving. Employed a wide range of presentation techniques, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises to deliver effective instruction, support student learning, and increase student productivity. Established and maintained a safe, structured learning environment. Collaborated with other faculty members to develop relevant and contemporary curricula, syllabi, and work-shops. Organized and pioneered some of FIDM’s first “insider tour” experiences, giving students direct access to fashion industry design leaders on their own turf. Students gained first hand insight into high end, professional, contemporary design career environments and processes. Students gained genuine direct insight though open and frank Q&A dialogs directly between students and working professionals.

Rusty Surfboards

2007 – 2009

Worked with one other person to co-design / develop and apply all graphics for the Rusty printables program, which included a multi-tier blank T-shirt program, as well as cut and sew shirts and fleece. Responsibilities included: researching trends to build seasonal art direction, color stories and inspiration boards, designing all logos and word marks to support printables and sportswear. Co-designing label / trim packs and color cards to ensure consistency with Rusty sportswear line. Working with own artistic skill as well as freelance and production artists to render original artwork for tees, fleece and board-shorts. Co-responsibilities also included all printables product development, including managing all aspects of the PLM for the Rusty printables program including SMUs. Rendering cads and pitch decks for color tuning and final approval process. Also responsible for sampling the entire printable line. Checking and editing tech packs to ensure maximum accuracy of finished product. This also included sourcing of all blanks and preparing the line for production handover. Tasks also included preparing all printables cads and art for catalog layouts.

Regularly directed training clinics to ensure quality instructor performance in compliance with all professional standards, company policies and safety regulations. Gained professional certifications through AASI and PSIA, for snowboard and ski education. Developed a thorough understanding of the wants and needs of adverse variety of resort clientele. Established cross training clinics and certification training for ski and snowboard school employees to learn each other’s disciplines.

Attended for Masters with the Masters program. This unique Masters track was known for working with New York Art Directors Club members and their extensive network to connect and interact with contemporary designers and illustrators through classes, lectures, studio exercises, short and long-term projects and real world studio/firm tours.
