In my own words

Ryan

Well rounded creative designer and photographer with 15 years of in-house and agency experience.

I have specialized in the outdoor industry for the past decade; working with brands like Outdoor Research, The Wilderness Society, Stanley, Lib-Tech Snowboards and Bomb Snow Magazine. My passion is brand design, development, and distribution. I enjoy the challenge of creating versatile logos, icons, typography, and imagery to honestly present brands. Looking to work with like minded people and do good through design. Based in Bozeman, Montana. Available for freelance and contract work.

Trajectory

Dec 2019 — Now
Designer / Owner · Breneman Creative Goods
After a decade of design and marketing within the Outdoor Industry, I moved my family back home to Bozeman, Montana to launch my freelance design career. Focusing on specialty design, packaging, and marketing.
Jun 2016 — Oct 2019
Senior Graphic Designer · Outdoor Research, Inc.
Honored to have worked with a brand and products I respect and have used over the decades. My responsibilities for OR include design and print coordination. Contributing to the creation of 5 annual consumer catalogs, two annual workbooks, and all product hang tags, product graphics, retail POP, as well as the design and coordination of our print advertising. My responsibilities also included international printer coordination, creation of press ready files, and project quotes direct with printers.
Jan 2011 — Sep 2015
Senior Graphic Designer · Mervin Mfg
I worked as Senior graphic designer and print manager for Mervin Mfg, focusing on LIB Tech brands of snowboards, surf, skate, ski, and apparel. My role is to design and coordinate distribution of our creative materials including product catalogs, hang tags, POP, factory tech packs, window instillation, and advertising both in print and web. I also act as production designer and print coordinator for LIB Tech, GNU, and ROXY. This includes catalogs, window installments, consumer materials, and point of purchase. I handled all coordination with local and global printers from quoting, to pre-press, on press assessment, and distribution organization to dealers and online vendors. I was also the Art Department project manager for all global art requests to support reps, shops, and internal requests. Mervin is an amazingly small group of fun individuals who make fun products with an environmentally driven mentality for outdoor enthusiasm.
Aug 2009 — Dec 2011
Lead Graphic Designer · Bomb Snow Magazine
“If your not having fun your fired.” –Jake Moe, yeah that was our office motto and one reason I loved contributing to Bomb Snow. I had the opportunity to design layout of my own travels, and for amazing photographers and artists such as Jeff Hawe, Mike Parillo, Adam Haynes, and Spacecraft. Proud to help un-plug corporate media malarkey, Bomb Snow is fueled by a love of free-speech, creative impulse, and an alternative to the MASS-DISTRACTION called media. The magazine is dedicated to providing readers with legitimate content through crafty design, quality photography & progressive ideas. I am proud to have contributed to it.
Aug 2003 — Sep 2010
Graphic Designer / Intern / Photographer / Advertising Coordinator · Outside Bozeman Magazine
While going to school for graphic design in Bozeman, I reached out to our local outdoor mag and began my internship as a supporting designer, photographer, and illustrator. Over the years I gradually worked my way up to lead graphic designer as well as coordinating all advertising files for print and managing our photography and illustration budget for each issue.
Nov 2006 — Aug 2009
Junior Graphic Designer · 45 Degrees north
After graduating from Design school I took a job in Alaska guiding MTB trips and wrenching in a shop in Skagway. Upon my return to Bozeman, I got a real nice design job doing graphic design. While there I handled local and country-wide clients creating logos, websites, and marketing campaigns. I handled my own projects in the creation of logos, advertising, print materials, pre-press, and web assets. Duties included production design to our creative director, senior designer and web programmer.
