In My Own Words
My name is Jim Rathbun and I have very interesting resume under my belt. I have worked in a variety of industries from automotive (product development), action sports (bicycle component design), automation (palletizing cell design), and semi conductor (thermal management & development) to name a few. While many of these industries have been fun to work in , my true passion remains in product development designing some type of component for one of my main hobbies, which are bicycling (bmx & mtn.), snowboarding, surfing, camping & golf. These hobbies have been a part of my life since I was a kid and remain a huge part of what brings happiness to my life. I am interested in a position within one of these industries.
Work Experience
Lead Mechanical Design Engineer (Freelance pos.)
Terrible One Bicycles2005 – 2017
Responsibilities: • Mechanical designer and engineer of multiple bicycle products for the Terrible One BMX brand • Lead the product development, design and validation for bicycle components, with a strong focus on understanding of material properties and characteristics for optimal design • Products designed: handlebars, stems, sprockets, bicycle frames, pedals, and forks • Constructed multiple FEA simulations for testing the strengths of T1's products and how they would handle bicycle rider loading under extreme situations • Ran mechanical lab Strength / Failure tests on the Steel tubing used for Terrible One's BMX Bicycles frames • Incorporated DFMA principles into product design, allowing for product interchangeability with various other bicycle brands. • All work completed in SolidWorks software while incorporating GD&T fundamentals.

Coalition BMX2005 – 2008
