In My Own Words

Emily LaPlume is a versatile, self motivated individual with a passion for traveling, sustainability and creative design. She constantly pushes herself to step outside of her comfort zone to gain exposure to all different fields and styles of work. She takes a proactive approach to her career and puts her all into everything she does. Her entrepreneurial endeavours have proved her to be a hard working, passionate individual who views any obstacle as an opportunity to test her skills and grow as a professional and individual.

Emily graduated from Champlain College in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and minor in Event Management. In 2016, during her time at Champlain, Emily founded a women's swimwear company, called Saturday Swimwear. Inspired by her travels around the world, Saturday Swimwear's aim is to combine fashion, function and sustainability while creating a product that encourages other women to get out and explore.

Emily is currently living in Bend, Oregon where she is continuing to grow the Saturday Swimwear brand.

Saturday Swimwear is a sustainable women’s swimwear company inspired by Emily's travels around the world. As a self-taught seamstress and designer, Emily worked her way from the ground up developing a business plan, custom designs and solidifying a strong brand following. The company's main marketing focuses are sustainability as well as developing a community of women, with similar interests, who support each other through their own adventures.

Since June 2023, Emily has been the owner and operator of Local Assembly, a retail store specializing in high-quality, sustainably made goods. In this role, Emily oversees all facets of the business, including purchasing, merchandising, marketing, social media, and customer service. Emily is dedicated to curating a selection of eco-friendly products, enhancing brand visibility, and delivering an exceptional customer experience, reflecting a deep commitment to sustainability and conscious retail practices.

Curated a hotel gift shop consisting of local goods and other high-quality products that aligned with brand image and mission. Responsible for maintaining vendor relations, purchasing, and merchandising the retail space.

Developed and executed credit union events, designed activities and promotional items for 2014, 2015 and 2016 Credit Union National Association's Youth Week, including developing a theme, promotional items and logo created with inDesign. Conducted research and submitted recommendations to launch corporate Twitter and Instagram accounts - which were ultimately implemented. Guest blogger for the company's blog platform.

Worked alongside the Experiential Marketing Team to plan, prepare and execute youth focused events nationwide. Helped plan, prepare for and execute (on grounds) Mountain Dew's sponsorship presence at the 2015 Burton US Open in Vail, Colorado. Responsible for creating event guide books. Conducted youth market research. Assisted with budgets as well as approving and submitting invoices.

Snowboarder, Brand Ambassador, Representative, and Volunteer for White Flag Sales. Promote Burton Snowboards, Anon Optics, Mizu, Analog, SkullCandy, and NE Women Snow in hopes to encourage customer-product relationship and influence a larger audience to buy their products. Volunteer for White Flag sponsored events such as Burton Riglet Parks and Slash and Berm Banked Slalom at Killington Resort. Advocate for women's snowboarding and spread the love of the sport.
