Amanda Fedje

Mechanical engineer by degree from North Dakota State University with a background in naval nuclear propulsion and fluid system maintenance of nuclear powered aircraft carriers and submarines. Have worked as a civilian for the US Navy in Bremerton, WA, Everett, WA, San Diego, CA, Yokosuka, Japan with brief stints onboard actively deployed carriers in the South and East China Seas and the Persian Gulf. On the side, I've received nanodegrees online through Udacity in data science and and business analytics.

As a creative outlet, I attended the Art Institutes of Seattle and San Diego part time. I completed beginner coursework in fashion illustration, technical sketching, patternmaking, Adobe Photoshop, color theory, textiles, and marketing fundamentals. I also completed beginner and intermediate sewing and garment construction. I never had the opportunity to complete my Associate's Degree in Fashion Design. The school was unexpectedly shut down in 2019. Had I been able to continue my education I was most looking forward to advanced courses in trend forecasting and the application of color theory and smart textiles to clothing and accessories. Interestingly, I see a growing link between my engineering skills (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering) and smart textiles. My recent independent study in data science, data analytics, and artificial intelligence (Udacity nanodegrees) also appears to be of growing importance in trend forecasting. I am continuing to explore these topics on my own.
